When was the last time you prayed for someone that wasn’t yourself, a member of your family or one of your friends? There are so many elements in our lives that we are trying to juggle that, after praying for favour at work or exam success for your children or a breakthrough for Sister so-and-so, it’s easy to overlook your neighbour.

In May of 1940, during World War II, international opinion predicted the demise of Britain. Journalists came from various parts of the world to document the imminent surrender of Britain to Germany. According to Winston Churchill, “the whole root and core and brain of the British Army” were trapped on the beaches of Dunkirk, facing certain death or capture at the hands of the Nazis.
